Center a light over each nightstand, about 6 to 8 in in from the headboard edge, with the glass around shoulder height when you sit up in bed, roughly 24 to 30 in above the mattress. Beside a vanity mirror, set the glass near eye level, 60 to 66 in from the floor, with the pair 30 to 40 in apart. A single sconce looks like an afterthought; a pair makes it architecture.
